Italian Style Ham

1 whole picnic ham (about 5 lb.)
6 or 8 cloves of garlic
3/4 c. vinegar


Remove skin from ham. Peel and slice garlic in half lengthwise. Cut 1/2 inch deep cuts in the ham and insert garlic pieces. Place ham in a large pan and add water until about 1 to 2 inches deep around ham, then add the vinegar. Cover and simmer 20 minutes per pound. Remove cover and bake at 300 degrees for 10 minutes per pound.
