Ham and Asparagus Melt

12 asparagus spears
1/3 cup finely chopped green onions
2 tablespoons dijon mustard
1 tablespoon fat-free mayonnaise
2 whole wheat english muffins -- split and toasted
1/4 pound sliced lean ham
1/4 cup (1-oz) shredded reduced-fat cheese (preferably Jarlsberg)

Trim and peel butt ends of asparagus. In a small saucepan, bring water to a boil; add asparagus. Cook 3 minutes; drain. Cut into 2-inch pieces.

Preheat broiler. Combine onions, mustard, and mayonnaise; spread mustard mixture evenly over cut sides of muffins. Arrange ham evenly on each muffin half; top with asparagus pieces. Sprinkle each with 1 tablespoon shredded cheese. Place muffin halves on a baking sheet, and broil 2 minutes or until cheese melts.
