Sauerkraut with Ham Shank

1 1/2 lb Ham shank
1 pt Water
1 1/2 lb Sauerkraut
1 Raw potato; grated
1 pn Salt
1 pn Sugar

Bring ham & water to a boil, reduce heat & simmer for 1-1/2 hours. Place sauerkraut under ham in cooking liquid. Bring to second boil, reduce heat & simmer for 1 hour. Thicken the liquid with the potato, bring to a boil & season with salt & sugar.
